ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office created a new registry for people with developmental disabilities or suffering from mental distress.

According to OCSO, the “Handle with Care” registry will provide deputies and first responders with information when responding to certain emergencies. The registry includes people with autism, down syndrome, those suffering from substance abuse, and more.

This came about when a Geneva resident reached out to her local representatives. She told them she adopted a family member with a developmental disability and is concerned an emergency response could affect him.

Residents may fill out a form and submit it for the registry by downloading the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office app from the Apple or Google Play Store. You can also request a physical form by calling (585)-395-4560.
