LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-car crash that happened Wednesday night around 7:45 p.m. after a man struck a tree.

Police officials say the single-car crash occurred eastbound on I-96 near Zimmer Rd., just southwest of Williamston.

A 61-year-old man was driving the pick-up truck and police say he went into the median and hit a tree. First responders found the driver unresponsive and took him to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say alcohol, drugs, and speed are not believed to be factors in the incident, but a medical event may have contributed to the crash.

Highway traffic was reduced to one lane last night but the scene has since been cleared.

This is an open investigation and the Igham County Regional Crash Investigation Team is asking people to call 517-676-8202 for any hopeful information.
