NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Heavy rain and strong winds impacted Thursday’s morning commute across the state.

Periods of heavy rain are expected to continue throughout the day before giving way to showers. This will cause some isolated flooding in some areas. The storm will drift away from Connecticut Thursday night.

STORM TEAM 8 FORECAST: Unsettled today & nicer tomorrow

For those who have to drive on Thursday morning, here are some tips to help you stay safe:

    • See and be seen- make sure your windshield wipers don’t leave streaks
    • Avoid cruise control
    • Slow down and leave room
    • Continue to look and steer in the direction in which you want the car to go.
    • Avoid slamming on the brakes as this will further upset the vehicle’s balance and make it harder to control.
