WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — For three years, Markeshia Jackson has been bringing the people of Texoma heartfelt, deep-cutting stories.

After countless hours of dedication, Jackson will leave KFDX at the end of May to pursue a full-time reporter position across the country.

The beloved and well-deserving multi-media journalist and anchor has amassed several awards and recognitions in her few years at KFDX; in April of this year, Jackson was named the Small Market Reporter of the Year by the Texas Association of Broadcast News.

Not only has she been professionally recognized, but our newsroom has received a multitude of emails from community members who have interacted with Jackson, detailing her unending kindness and deep-rooted talents that are apparent to all, even from brief meetings.

Jackson’s hard work and kindness are well-known to all of us here at the station, too.

“There’s not enough good things I can say,” Evening Producer Angie Lankford said. “She’s a breath of fresh air and she has been from day one. She’s the best reporter I’ve ever worked with in nine years.”

Jackson started in June of 2021 and quickly proved how skilled she was in every job and assignment she tackled.

“Markeshia and I started around the same time, and it’s hard to believe she’s leaving our family,” MMJ and Weekend Anchor Dylan Jimenez said. “Markeshia started reporting on weekends; soon, I followed while she anchored, trying to put on a matching tie, to now having big shoes to fill as the weekend anchor.”

Ever since Carney Porter became KFDX’s newest co-evening anchor, Jackson accepted the position of helping Jalen Wells out as morning anchor, and she did so with a beaming smile.

“It’s incredibly bittersweet to see Markeshia go, but I’m excited to see how she’ll continue to grow in her future endeavors,” Wells said. “I think Markeshia is an amazing storyteller, one of the genuinely nicest people I’ve ever met, and she’s also so deserving of all the accolades and achievements she’s gained during her time at KFDX.”

Having worked here for over three years, Jackson has definitely made her mark on our station and in Texoma.

“I love everyone here, and it’s an amazing staff to have been a part of,” Jackson said.

Jackson covered Texoma’s local Black History Month for the past two years, bringing to light the amazing men and women who made history right here.

She said one story of which she’s incredibly proud of sharing is the story of KFDX’s first Black woman reporter in 1978: Martha Iglehart .

Jackson’s last day will be Thursday, May 24.

She is leaving our station and moving on to WAVY in Portsmouth, Va., where she will be a full-time reporter. Many notable journalists have worked at WAVY, and we have no doubt Jackson will become one of them.
