CALVERT COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) announced that it was investigating a police pursuit that started in Calvert County and ended in a fatal crash in Anne Arundel County.

In the overnight hours of Monday, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) received reports of cars being broken into in the Huntingtown area. Just after 5:30 a.m., deputies tried stopping a car that was believed to be involved in the break-ins.

The car failed to stop for deputies, according to the OAG.

Deputies chased the car for about 25 miles into Anne Arundel County, where it crashed with a pick-up truck at Birdsville Road and Solomons Island Road.

The three occupants of the car were taken to a hospital. The driver was critically hurt and the rear passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A girl in the front passenger seat was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital and had injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

In an update Wednesday afternoon, the OAG said Calvert County Sheriff’s Deputies Wyatt McDowell, an 8-year veteran, and Deputy Michael Lewis, a 7-year veteran, were involved in the pursuit.

The OAG’s Independent Investigations Division is continuing to investigate the fatal pursuit.
