‘Hackberry Canyon’ fire in Potter County estimated 1,300 acres, 50% contained

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas A&M Forest Service reported that as of 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday the “Hackberry Canyon” fire was estimated at 1,000 acres and 30% contained.

POTTER COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas A&M Forest Service reported that an overnight fire that began west of Lake Meredith in Potter County had reached 1,000 acres as of Wednesday morning.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the “Hackberry Canyon” fire in Potter County was estimated at 1,000 acres and 0% containment as of 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The forest service’s wildfire map placed the fire’s location west of Lake Meredith along Gravel Pit Road, east of Highway 87. Drivers and community members in the area should be aware of possible road closures or delays related to the fire and otherwise be cautious of emergency responders on or near the roadways.

Officials with the City of Fritch noted on Tuesday evening that there was no fire threat to the community at the time, though smoke from the fire was carried by the wind over to nearby areas.
