The public has voted and two of three board of education races in St. Mary's County have yet to be determined following Tuesday’s nonpartisan primary election.

There are three seats on the St. Mary’s County’s school board that are up for election in 2024 with multiple candidates vying for each seat.

The top two vote-getters in each of the at-large and districts 2 and 4 will move on to the general election, which will be held Nov. 5.

Results reported Tuesday night were unofficial and do not include provisional and some mail-in votes, which could make a difference in the at-large and District 2 races.

In the at-large election, Mechanicsville's Josh Guy received 46.7% of the vote.

As of Tuesday night and with some ballots still to be counted, Brandie Edelen of Mechanicsville had 25.1% of the vote while Angela M. Wathen of Coltons Point was holding with about 24.4%, a difference of 107 votes.

Deforest Rathbone of Leonardtown finished with 3.8% of the votes.

In District 2, incumbent Cathy Allen of Hollywood received 55.4% of the vote and will move on to the general election.

The second general election spot is still up for grabs as Elena Brewer held 22.7% of the votes while Leonardtown's Anthony Lotierzo had 21.9% as of Tuesday night, a difference of 113 votes.

District 4 was won by Mary Washington of Lexington Park, who received 58.2% of the votes, while Hollywood's David C. Drys tallied 24.1%. Both will move on to the general election.

Charles L.V. Carrington of Lexington Park finished in third place with 17.7% of the vote in the District 4 race.
