St. Mary’s County voters headed to the polls on Tuesday and elected incumbent Amy Lorenzini to remain as judge of the Circuit Court in the presidential primary, fending off challenger Sue Ann Armitage.

Both candidates appeared on both the Democratic and Republican primary ballots.

Lorenzini received approximately 55% of the Democratic votes while Armitage earned about 45%.

In Republican ballots, Lorenzini took nearly 53% of the votes, compared to 47% for Armitage.

Because Lorenzini won both major party contests, she alone will now move on to November's general election ballots.

Once elected, judges serve on the bench for a 15-year term or until the age of 70.

The 46-year-old Lorenzini, who lives in California, has been a Circuit Court judge since she was appointed to the position by then-Gov. Larry Hogan (R) in May 2022.

The 58-year-old Armitage, who resides in Drayden, has practiced law in the county for more than 30 years as an attorney with her husband at Armitage & Armitage in Lexington Park, and received an award from the Maryland State Bar Association for pro bono service for providing free powers of attorney and wills for active duty military.

The general election will be held Nov. 5.
