SCHENECTADY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Schenectady County Legislature will take up a resolution on Tuesday that allows the County to enter a three-month option agreement for One Broadway Center in Schenectady. The County is looking for options for office space because the Schenectady County Office Building continues to age, and needs significant repairs, modifications, and modernization. This includes replacing the HVAC system and other upgrades.

Opening in 1962, the County Office Building houses the County Legislature, County Clerk, two floors for Family Court, and additional administrative offices. Potential buildings are being evaluated, allowing for potential consolidation of offices and increased accessibility at reduced costs.

According to the Schenectady County Legislature, the option agreement would offer the county to buy the property for $12.5M. The price of the option is $75,000, which will be deducted from the purchase if the option is exercised.

“As the needs of our departments continue to evolve, we are looking at all available options for
housing County government offices to best serve our community in a cost-effective way,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “This option agreement would allow the County to gather detailed reports and cost estimates for any repairs or modifications that would be needed. We will continue to evaluate other buildings and conduct due diligence to seek the best value at the lowest cost.”
