Education: Alvin Community College In seeking this position, what are your objectives? I want to bring our department up to a level of respectable professionalism through proper training and staff development. This will result in better response times and much better investigations. I want to grow the department and build relationships both within the county and with surrounding agencies. I want to regrow the trust between the department and our citizens. I plan to work with Commissioners court both during and outside of court. What are your qualifications for this office? I have extensive investigative experience and over 34 continuous years in law enforcement working everything from minor crimes to murders. I also understand how to prioritize and work within a budget. Networking with people and other agencies is my strong suit.  I have extensive experience in leadership roles of criminal investigations. Organizing people to take up key roles is vital to every large investigation. How would your election benefit the voters? I have an open door policy. I will be an approachable sheriff who answers his phone and returns calls. I plan to address the citizen concerns that many cases aren’t being worked. I will remedy that issue. List three major issues you would confront if elected and how would you work to resolve those issues? 1. Staffing & training - Expand the Reserve Program to get more boots on the ground. This means faster response times and better officer safety. I want to hire female and bilingual deputies. We must update the radios. Outdated radio equipment results in problems with deputies transmitting in the outlying areas of the county. This is a serious Officer safety problem. We need repeaters up to boost the signal. 2. Narcotics - I plan to work with the federal HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) program to enhance the investigation leading to the disruption and dismantling of drug trafficking and money laundering. 3. I want to reimplement the Inmate Work Program to ease the county budget for some of the landscaping and other county projects. I plan to significantly expand the duties of the Cattle Deputy. This is a very rural county with lots of cattle. This means we get a lot of loose and/or missing cows. A designated Cattle Deputy can address these issues and free up Patrol deputies.
