CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — An uptick in copper wire thefts in Clearfield County has state police looking for answers.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after multiple thefts began in March in Knox, Pike and Decatur townships. According to investigators, repairs have cost at least $50,000.

The first theft happened around March 2 on Douglas Road in Knox Township. An unknown actor(s) cut two aerial cables — one copper and one fiber — and made off with the copper cable.

Around April 6, two more aerial cables were cut along Curwensville Tyrone Highway in Pike Township. Both were copper and stolen.

Another aerial cable was cut and stolen around April 19 along Zion Road in Knox Township.

A pole-mounted copper cable was cut and stolen in Decatur Township around April 26 along Dupree Road.

The thefts have affected numerous customers, cut off their service, caused “significant network damage,” and affected infrastructure, including Clearfield County 911, fire, police, etc…

Anyone with information is asked to call PSP Clearfield at 814-857-3800.
