ZELA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A school in the Nicholas County was alerted to begin lockdown procedures on Tuesday due to an unspecified incident.

The Nicholas County Board of Education reports that, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, alerts of a situation in the Zela community necessitated the implementation of a school lockdown.

Students at the school – which was never referred to directly by name – however, had reportedly already boarded the school busses to be transported home at the time of the alert.

The school principal and central office are said to have remained in contact with bus drivers during the transportation to ensure that all students made it to their homes without incident.

The incident – the exact nature of which has yet to be revealed at the time of writing – led to the development necessitated  the arrival of “a large number of police officers” on the scene.

It was indicated by the Nicholas County Board of education that did not directly involve the school premises itself, with a statement which read, “At no time, was the threat at the school itself and neither our students nor our staff were in harm’s way.”

No further information could be provided at the time of writing.
