MONROE TWP. (WWJ) — A man is facing charges after allegedly firing a shot at another driver during a road rage incident on I-75 late Monday morning in Monroe County.

The incident unfolded just after 11 a.m. along northbound I-75 just south of Laplaisance Road, according to Michigan State Police.

MSP officials say a 54-year-old Toledo man in a gray BMW pulled out a gun while driving alongside the 68-year-old victim’s car. While they were still in motion, the suspect allegedly fired one round.

The victim’s car was not hit and no one was injured in the incident, according to MSP.

Both cars got off the freeway at Laplaisance and the victim parked at a nearby gas station and waited for police.

The suspect’s BMW was found a short time later at the Harwood Plaza, where he was arrested without incident. Police found the gun inside the BMW.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was held at the Monroe County Jail. He is expected to be charged with felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm and brandishing a firearm.

Authorities have not released any information about what prompted the alleged road rage.

MSP officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the road rage or knows something about the shooting to call Trooper I. Molla at 734-242-3500.
