Tippecanoe County Commissioners finalize land sale to TSC for expansion for $1.85 million

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Come Thursday, the Tippecanoe School Corp. will close on its land purchase of approximately 99 acres from Tippecanoe County at the purchase price of $1.85 million.

Tippecanoe County Commissioners approved the transfer of the land, situated at the northeast corner Tippecanoe County Roads 50 West and 500 North located south of Harrison High School behind the Tippecanoe County Villa, during the Oct. 16 meeting , which was then finalized during Monday's May 6 meeting.

The proposed amount for the land purchase will be paid for from the district's operations fund, TSC spokeswoman Sue Scott said following the October meeting.

Tippecanoe County Commissioner Dave Byers said the county had been discussing with the school district for the past few years on their needs to expand as the county continues to grow.

"They are looking at potentially more of a growth area because Harrison is getting full, so they're looking at it from one growth area, and they're looking at potentially expanding into another school there," Byers said.

Some of the money from the land transfer will be used to renovate the Tippecanoe Villa, located just south of Harrison High School along North Tippecanoe County Road 50 West, Byers said.

"We are going to use a fair amount of it to fix the Villa to make it purely ADA compatible, making sure the buildings are taken care of for generations to come," Byers said.
