SUMMERLEE, WV (WVNS) — With Mother’s Day approaching on Sunday, May 12, 2024, local greenhouses are seeing folks lined up to buy flowers.

Casto’s Greenhouse in Fayette County offered a selection of flowers and plants along with vegetables.

Shoppers steered carts through the nine greenhouses at Casto’s and stood on a line to make purchases on Monday, May 6, 2024.

“Big sellers are always hanging baskets. Hanging baskets seems to go,” said Matthew Shott, an expert gardener who works at Casto’s Greenhouse. “That’s what Mom wants, it seems, for Mother’s Day. We also have combination pots. The combination pots are big sellers, too.”

Shott said he expected the shelves and hangers to be practically bare by Mother’s Day.
