WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An event on the grounds of the Luzerne County Courthouse paid tribute to people who play a pivotal role in serving the community.

The Knights of Columbus hosted an inaugural “Flags for Heroes” event.

The public was encouraged to sponsor a three-by-five-foot flag with the name of their personal hero on a tag past and present.

Those heroes could be first responders, in the military, teachers, mentors, and even a coach or family member.

“I think it’s important for the community to just honor their personal heroes and to not forget of all the service members for our country and even those unsung heroes who didn’t, who were not in the service,” stated Christopher Musso faithful navigator assembly 3755 Knights of Columbus

25 Flags for Heroes now adorn the south lawn of the courthouse. The flags will remain on display through June 1 in Wilkes-Barre.
