MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) — The West Virginia Gold Star Mothers took part in the Living Memorial tree dedication at Grand Vue Park on Saturday.

The Gold Star Mothers Living Memorial apple orchard consists of 55 assorted apple trees that represent each county in West Virginia.

Medals were placed on the trees in remembrance of the Post 9/11 West Virginia Fallen Military Service members.

“And we put dog tags on them for our children that we’ve lost. We do this so it gives back to the community in about five years when they mature so they’ll have apples.”

Rosa Schilling – vice president of the West Virginia Gold Star Mothers

The memorial orchard reminds us of the names of those who are lost but not forgotten. For those looking to visit the memorial it is located on Cabin Drive in Grand Vue Park.
