CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – If you’ve been sniffling and sneezing a lot lately, you’re not alone.

If you’re an allergy sufferer chances are you’ve really been feeling it lately.

The first week of May brought some brighter and drier weather to western Massachusetts. Everything is greening up and we’re seeing more leaves and flowers on the trees. But with the drier weather comes higher levels of pollen.

You can now see a yellow coating of pollen showing up on things like your car and on picnic tables. If you are an allergy sufferer and you want to spend time outdoors there are some things you can do.

Todd Newcombe of Longmeadow told 22News, “I do get affected by allergies and it can be a problem but I take some over-the-counter medication to keep it under control, that keeps most of the sniffles away.”

The tree pollen will be with us for the next few weeks but it will gradually go down. However, grass pollen levels will continue to rise and will be with us through July. As we head into August, it will be weed pollen and mold that will be an issue.
