Jim Boscov, chairman and CEO of Boscov’s, received the Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence from Caron Treatment Centers Wednesday night during a fundraising event.

The Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence is presented annually to an individual or couple who, in the estimation of Caron’s Board of Trustees, demonstrates the same spirit of caring and compassion exemplified by Caron’s founders, Dick and Catherine Caron, the nonprofit behavioral health and addiction treatment center said.

Funds raised during the 34th Annual Richard J. Caron Award of Excellence Celebration benefits Caron’s mission, providing quality and lifesaving addiction and mental health treatment, education and prevention services to thousands of individuals and families.

Last year, Caron provided more than $5 million in financial assistance for individuals seeking treatment services.

“Jim stands as a pillar of our community, his unwavering commitment and genuine compassion coupled with his tireless contributions to the lives of so many has made a significant impact throughout Berks County,” said John Driscoll, CEO of Caron Treatment Centers. “Jim and the Boscov’s community have been advocates and supporters of substance use prevention, education and recovery for decades. Not only are we grateful for his ongoing support, we’re honored to recognize him as our Richard J. Caron awardee.”

Headquartered in Reading, Boscov is the third generation of the Boscov family leading the company, overseeing its 48 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Ohio and Rhode Island.

Boscov has not only made an impact on the retail industry, but on Berks County, currently serving on the board of Caron Treatment Centers and Tower Health, and previously serving on the boards of the Berks County Community Foundation, Berks County United Way, Alvernia University and the South Mountain YMCA, among many other charitable organizations throughout his tenure, Driscoll said.
