    Northern Virginia breweries take home gold medals in 2024 World Beer Cup Awards

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Eight of Virginia’s craft breweries won a total of 10 medals combined in the 2024 World Beer Cup Awards , with three of them taking home gold.

    In a May 1 press release, the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild announced the winners of these prestigious awards. The competition has over 100 beer categories and receives entries from all over the world each year, according to its website.

    The winning breweries hail from all over the state, from Norfolk to Stafford County to Chesterfield County.

    “These remarkable breweries exemplify the spirit of innovation, dedication and excellence that defines Virginia’s thriving independent craft beer industry,” said the guild in the release. “Their commitment to quality and craftsmanship once again shines brightly on the global stage, bringing accolades not only to their individual establishments but also to the entire Commonwealth.”

    Barley Naked Brewing Co., Stafford County

    • Gold in Irish-Style Red Ale for its “Rock Hill Irish Red”
    • Bronze in Sweet Stout or Cream Stout for its “Irish Prenup”

    This brewing company is located at 15 Tech Parkway in Stafford County. According to its website, it is a veteran-owned company focused on “minimal ingredients, traditional recipes and a fundamental brewing approach.”

    The company has been celebrating its win online by encouraging locals to come try that gold medal-winning Rock Hill Irish Red.

    Bear Chase Brewing Co., Loudoun County

    • Silver in German-Style Köelsch for its “Kodiak Kolsch”

    This brewing company is located at 33665 Bear Chase Lane in Loudoun County. According to its website, this brewery started out as the “crazy idea” of five close friends and has since been realized as a destination farm brewery.

    The company congratulated the other winners and celebrated its own silver medal on social media .

    Blue Mountain Brewery, Nelson County

    • Silver in American Style Cream Ale for its “Classic Lager”
    • Silver in Contemporary Gose for its “Wild Pear”

    This brewery is located at 9519 Critzer Shop Road in Nelson County. According to its website, this brewery is a relaxing destination with a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Alongside its beer offerings, the brewery also offers farm-to-table local foods.

    Caiseal Beer & Spirits Co., Hampton

    • Gold in Belgian-Style Quadrupel for its “Namur the Merrier Belgian-Style Quad”

    This brewing company is located at 504 N King Street in Hampton. According to its website, this brewery is owned by a retired naval commander from Texas.

    The brewery’s headquarters was once an armory, now retrofitted into a brewpub and concert hall.

    COVA Brewing Co., Norfolk

    • Bronze in Contemporary American-Style Lager for its “Invert”

    This brewing company is located at 9529 Shore Drive in Norfolk. According to its website, this brewery is family-owned and opened just under four years ago. Alongside its brewery, COVA also operates a craft coffee house.

    The brewery celebrated its win on social media , thanking its brewers and talking about what makes Invert special.

    “This classic rice lager is crisp, dry and highly drinkable,” the company wrote. “All you have to do is invert it and enjoy.”

    Decipher Brewing, Charlottesville

    • Bronze in Irish-Style Red Ale for its “The Librarian”

    This brewery is located at 1740 Broadway Street in Charlottesville. According to its website, this brewery is veteran-owned and began with the co-owners “homebrewing on an apartment stove.”

    The brewery thanked its staff and supporters while celebrating its win on social media .

    Port City Brewing Co., Alexandria

    • Gold in Belgian-Style Witbier for its “Optimal Wit”

    This brewing company is located at 3950 Wheeler Avenue in Alexandria. According to its website, the company has been around since 2011, with a mission to be reliable, innovative and environmentally sustainable.

    The company celebrated its win on social media , sharing how this award will join the many it has already taken home over the years.

    Three Leg Run Brewery, Chesterfield County

    • Silver in English Ale for its “Working An Angle”

    This brewery is located at 4418 W Hundred Road in Chesterfield County. According to its website, this brewery is a family-owned business that serves craft brews, wine and mead.

    The brewery celebrated its win on social media , thanking its “taproom family and fan club.”

    The Basic City Beer Company, which has a location in Richmond, was awarded the Gold medal for the International Dark Lager category in 2023’s competition .
