One southbound lane of I-71 has reopened in Gallatin County after the interstate shut down again due to a second vehicle fire, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office said the interstate was shut down due to a vehicle fire near the 68 mile marker, which is in the area of Walnut Lick Road.

Gallatin County dispatch said one lane reopened around 4:08 p.m., but traffic was still really slow.

Traffic was being diverted off the interstate at the Verona-Mudlick Road exit, which is at the 72 mile marker.

Earlier Wednesday morning, all southbound lanes of I-71 near Verona-Mudlick Road were shut down due to another crash involving a semi-truck catching fire.

The lanes were shut down for more than four hours.

It's unclear if anyone was injured in either of the Wednesday crashes.

The sheriff's office has not said what led up to either crash.
