FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Soon students at Valley Elementary School and at Green Valley Elementary School will have a brand new school that will feature several upgrades that will improve their school days.

It has been 50 years since Valley Elementary School was last renovated. Teachers and students were excited to hear the news that their future school broke ground on Tuesday.

“We’re very excited,” Principal of Valley Elementary School, Jennifer Hyde, said. “We’re looking forward to having a state of the art facilities that have upgraded technology.”

County Executive Jessica Fitzwater has prioritized updating some of the county’s older schools. She says being able to break ground is one step forward to bringing better education to the county.

“We’re looking at the schools that were built 40 to 60 years ago, and we have a long-range plan for how we can make sure that the schools also keep pace with the needs in our community,” Fitzwater said.

For Principal of Green Valley Elementary School, Max Fletcher, the new school will allow teachers and students to step into a modernized era of education.

“We do have very high expectations that the new building can afford us the opportunity to enjoy a new modern space but also to be able to provide what we need so that we can enhance instruction and help our students achieve their very best,” Fletcher said.
