Who are the 2024 Somerset County breakout softball players?

Softball players across Somerset County are having breakout seasons in 2024, many of whom are only freshmen and sophomores.

They are helping their teams to winning records and a push toward the postseason.

Here is a look at the players racking up lofty numbers this season. None of these players were on the preseason players to watch list.

Rylee Baer, fr., Windber

Baer has 14 hits, including six home runs in 11 games. She is batting .452 with 15 RBIs and scored 16 runs. Baer has 11 stolen bases.

Tori Bowers, so., Shade

Bowers is batting .531 with 17 hits, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored in 11 games.

Nici Costlow, so., Windber

Costlow is tied for the team lead with 19 hits in 12 games. She is batting .422 with six RBIs and 14 runs scored. Costlow has 10 stolen bases.

Kendell Donaldson, so., Meyersdale

Donaldson is batting an impressive .447 with 17 hits, nine RBIs and 16 runs scored through 14 games.

Elly Fletcher, fr., Somerset

Fletcher has 12 hits and is batting .333 through 11 games.

Layla Gray, jr., Windber

Gray is batting .382 with 13 hits, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored in 12 games.

Angel James, jr., Windber

James is second on the team with 18 hits through 12 games. She is batting .462 with nine RBIs, 17 runs scored and a team-high 12 stolen bases.

Patty Kovacs, fr., Shade

Kovacs is batting .519 with 14 hits, nine RBIs and 19 runs scored through 11 games.

Savannah Landis, jr., Somerset

Landis has 14 hits and is batting .452 through 11 games.

Payton Maddy, fr., Shade

Maddy has 13 hits to go along with 18 RBIs and 15 runs scored. She is batting .448 and is tied for the team lead with 11 stolen bases through 11 games.

Coral Prosser, fr., Berlin Brothersvalley

Prosser leads the Mountaineers with a .548 batting average, 23 hits, 21 runs scored and seven stolen bases. She also has 12 RBIs through 12 games.

Elena Ritchey, fr., Berlin Brothersvalley

Ritchey has 19 hits, a team-high 17 RBIs to go along with 13 runs scored. She is 3-3 with a 3.68 ERA in seven appearances with 49 strikeouts.

Paelyn Sanner, fr., Rockwood

Sanner is batting .448 with 13 hits, six RBIs and 15 runs scored in 11 games.

Brooke Snyder, sr., Rockwood

Through 11 games, Snyder has a .513 batting average and has racked up 20 hits, 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
