Arkansas Storm Team Weather Blog: Tornado watch for parts of Arkansas

Much of Arkansas is under a tornado watch until 2am.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 1 and 2 risk for most of Arkansas, with a level three risk in far southwest Arkansas. For most of us, this is a low risk, but any risk of severe weather needs to be taken seriously.

All modes of severe weather will be possible. Damaging wind gusts, tornadoes, and large hail could be produced by the strongest thunderstorms on Sunday. Damaging wind gusts will be the main threat.

There will be some thunderstorms in western Arkansas on Sunday morning, but they won’t be severe. The timing of the severe thunderstorms will be in the afternoon and evening. It’s important to be weather aware from 2 pm to 11 pm on Sunday.

With these storms parts of Arkansas could record more than 2″ of rainfall in a short amount of time. This could lead to flash flooding. Much of Arkansas is under a flood watch until Monday morning.

Being weather aware means you are paying attention to the radar, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and have a safe place to go if a warning is issued over your location.
