    CC track squads put on a show

    The Crook County High School track & field team dominated both the boys and girls portion of a four-way meet held at Crook County on Wednesday, April 24.

    It was senior night and the final home meet of the year for Crook County, who spent time recognizing all their seniors during the meet. Also, the seniors were honored wearing white uniforms instead of the blue singlets that the rest of the team wore.

    The Cowboys amassed 171 points, while Gladstone was a distant second with 56.5, Sisters third with 24 points and Culver fourth, 12.5. In the girls meet Crook County finished with 125.5 points, while Sisters was second, 77, Culver third, 25, and Gladstone fourth, 24.5.

    The Cowboys took first in 14 of the 17 contested events, while the Cowgirls won eight of the 17 girls events. Eli Oelkers and Ayden Gulseth each won two events for the Cowboys, with Oelkers taking first in the long jump, 21-07.5 and the high hurdles, 16.05, while Gulseth won the shot put, 45-02, and led a Cowboy sweep of the first three places in the discus with a throw of 139-08.

    On the track, Julian Lopez won the 200, 23.13, while Adam Radabaugh won the 800, 2:03.39 and Gavin Humphreys took first in the 1,500, 4:22.15, and Taylor Harper led a Cowboy sweep of the first three places in the 3,000 with a time of 10:03.28, while Wyatt Otnes won the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.90. The Cowboy quartet of Jace Jonas, Eli Oelkers, Adam Radabaugh and Gabe Love won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:29.57.

    In the field, Gabe Love won the javelin with a throw of 178-08, while Alexander Jarrell took first in the high jump with a leap of 5-08, Joel Rice cleared 13-06 to win the pole vault and Gabriel Lopez leaped 38-00.75 to win the triple jump.

    For the Cowgirls, Natalia Crass was a double winner, taking first in the 400, 1:01.72, and 800, 2:31.32. Crass also ran on the Cowgirl winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Dylanne Smith, Crass, Chantai George and Salma Sacco won the 4x100 with a time of 51.40, while Chalis Bueckert, June Conner, Crass and Onia Seguro Lopez won the 4x400 with a time of 4:23.39.

    In the field, Sammy Miller led a Cowgirl sweep of the first three places in the shot put with a heave of 35-11, while Lucy Brooks won the discus with a throw of 98-04 and Paige Wood took first in the javelin with a toss of 108-00. The final Cowgirl winner was Makenna Duran who took first in the triple jump with a leap of 29-07.

    Also placing for the Cowboys on the track were Julian Lopez and Jace Jonas, second and fourth, respectively, while Cooper Nelson was third in the 200 and Ke’nan Twigg was fifth. In the 400, Harrison Housley finished second, Jonas third and Jacob Mckinnon fourth. In addition to winning the 3,000, Taylor Harper finished fourth in the 1,500, while Josiah Swick was second and Kannon Whiting third in the 3,000. Quinten Harsh-Bearden and Otnes finished second and third behind Oelkers in the 110 hurdles, while McKinnon and Noah Oelkers finished second and third behind Otnes in the 300 hurdles.

    Nathen Delapena, Kiernan Teasdale, Cooper Nelson and Julian Lopez finished second in the 4x100 relay, while Brandon Hayes, Reme Stuart, Jacob Yep and Ke’nan Twigg were third and Anthony Sacco, Tanner Songstand, Dani Vargas and Harrison Housley finished fourth. In the 4x400 relay Mckinnon, Teasdale, Humphreys and Julian Lopez finished second to their teammates.

    On the field, Michael Estes was second in the shot put, while Zach Levesque was fifth. Estes was also second in the discus, while Levesque was third. Luke Grogan was second in the javelin with a throw of 176-06, while Brysen Lorensen was fourth. Oelkers and Harsh-Bearden finished second and third behind Jarrell in the high jump, while Delapena was fifth in the pole vault. Jarrell took second in the long jump, while Gabriel Lopez was third. The final Cowboy to place was Vargas, who was fifth in the triple jump.

    For the Cowgirls, Sacco finished second in the 100, while George was fourth and Smith was fifth. Sacco was also second in the 200, with George third and Segura Lopez fourth. Avery Burnett finished fourth behind Crass in the 400, while Alanna Brasher was fifth behind Crass in the 800. In the 1,500 Ruby Snider finished second, Pati Carne took third and Chalis Bueckert finished in fourth, while Emily and Jane Rice placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles. Jane Rice placed third in the 300 hurdles, while Bueckert was fourth in the event, and Emily Rice fifth.

    In the throws, Wood finished second in the shot put, Duran took third and Brooks was fifth, while Wood was also second in the discus and McKenna Maykut took fourth in the event. In addition to winning the shot put, Miller was also seventh in the javelin, while Maykut took fourth in the event. In the jumps Sacco was fourth in the high jump, while Tatum Holliday was fifth, Jane Rice took fourth in the pole vault, while Emily Rice was fifth, Emily Rice was second in the long jump, Conner third, and Lanie Bruce fifth, while Avery Burnett finished second in the triple jump and Kenzie Town took fourth.

    Crook County competes at the Outback Field & Track Invitational on Saturday in Summer Lake, although most of the varsity team is not expected to attend. The Cowboys then compete at Madras on Wednesday in their final meet prior to the district championships.
