Bird flu not a problem for beef cattle, producers say

DENVER (KDVR) — Precautions remain in place as concerns continue for some over the bird flu.

Through a statement, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said when it comes to the bird flu — known officially as the H5N1 virus — the agency has identified the spread between cows within the same herd, the spread from cows to poultry and the spread between dairies associated with cattle movements.

A spokesperson for the National Cattlemen’s Association said this is not an issue for beef cattle or cattle producers. There have been no cases of avian flu detected in Colorado.

A phone call to the Dairy Farmers of America was not immediately returned.
