HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The historic Kinzua Bridge State Park Skywalk is slated to close in late 2024 for a multi-year rehabilitation project.

Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said Wednesday the department will be undertaking the project to help preserve the landmark into the future.

This comes after a structural safety inspection determined the skywalk in McKean County requires some maintenance. Workers will replace and add new steel to some areas of the supports exposed to the elements.

American Marten reintroduction postponed to address concerns

The skywalk and Kinzua Creek Trail will be closed for the project beginning on Nov. 19. Work is anticipated to begin in early 2025 with a completion date set for fall 2027. The DCNR said the skywalk will be open and safe to access during the 2024 fall foliage season.

“DCNR understands the skywalk experience is most spectacular during fall foliage season and visitors support local economies, so the project will not begin until after the season ends this year and will be reopened for two months in the fall during construction,” Dunn said.
