CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity is seeking Program Partners for its Homeownership Program.

One completed home is currently available for purchase by a Program Partner, and the organization plans to build more new homes and undertake a home rehabilitation project in the near future.

Program Partners are selected based on the following factors:

    • Need for housing: This can range from structural issues with their living situation to overcrowding or paying too much for their home.
    • Ability to pay an affordable mortgage: Community members who earn at least $20,000 per year or 30 percent (whichever is greater) of the Area Median Income for their family size, according to HUD guidelines.
    • Applicants don't need perfect credit, but they must be willing to work to get mortgage-ready.
    • Willingness to partner: This includes taking classes in financial management and budgeting, home maintenance and performing “sweat equity hours” to help build, renovate or repair projects.
    • Applicants must have lived or worked in Cheboygan County for at least one year.

Mandy Martin, executive director for Cheboygan County Habitat for Humanity, expressed her excitement and gratitude towards the community support that has helped the organization build safe, decent and affordable homes.
