Four young women were shot following a confrontation along the Canal Walk in downtown Indy.

IMPD officers on bike patrol heard several shots fired around 12:20 am.

Major Kerry Buckner, IMPD's Nightwatch Commander, said two groups of people had a disagreement and fired shots at each other across the canal.

Four female victims were located; they were 17, 18, 23, and 24 years old.

Although the police arrived and tried to diffuse the situation, the argument continued.

It happened near the Colts Canal Playspace at the Orange Bridge.

According to reports, all of the injuries sustained were not life-threatening.

Despite some witnesses being taken in for questioning, not everyone is cooperating with the investigation.

A gun has been recovered at the scene, and police are reviewing the park's security camera footage for more information.
