A County Sheriff’s deputy from Victorville is currently under investigation after he was recorded apparently attacking a man who seemed to be surrendering, as Fox News reports.

    What are the details?

The deputy, whose name has not been published, was placed on paid administrative leave, based on a statement made by Undersheriff Shannon Dicus.

“This incident raises concerns. I expect my deputies to remain professional while engaging the public,” was the statement from Sheriff John McMahon.

The suspect had been riding a motorcycle early on Wednesday. He failed to pull over for a traffic stop, which led the deputy on a high-speed chase after him on Interstate 15 and surface streets near Victorville.

The man who has been identified as 32-year-old Willie Jones eventually tried to get rid of his motorcycle and was hiding at a car dealership.

The video obtained by officials showed a man coming out from underneath a car. He put his hands up and then got on his knees. Just when the man was lying flat on the ground the officer took two quick steps towards him and apparently attacked him. Not just once, two times.

A second deputy then appeared on the scene and assisted the officer while handcuffing the suspect.

“Due to this being an active investigation, no further details are being released about the incident,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said for Fox News.

The department’s report after the investigation is done will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. The internal investigation aims to determine if the deputy breached any of the department policies.

Jones was treated on the location for his injuries before being taken into custody for the Victorville incident.
