(CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif.) The vehicle of a suspected drunk driver was struck by a train early Sunday morning at an East Contra Costa railroad crossing after he drove around closed road signage at the crossing, East Bay Times reports.

Police responded to reports of a collision between a car and a train at the railroad crossing at approximately 1:49 a.m.

However, authorities and first responders at the scene found the wreckage of the vehicle unoccupied. The driver was later found in the area and was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.

The railroad crossing at Knightsen and Sellers avenues remains closed as crews carry out repairs on missing asphalt. Authorities remind drivers that they will get stuck if they try to drive over that crossing.

    The investigation is ongoing.
