Shoppers in Boyne City will soon have an opportunity to browse through a treasure trove of high-end, like new, vintage and designer clothing, beautiful fine art, and upscale furniture — all for a great cause.

The resale shop, HomeAgain, is the brainchild of Scott MacKenzie, Executive Director of Charlevoix Area Humane Society. “We hope this will be a steady and sustainable revenue source for us. Our goal is for HomeAgain to cover 30–40% of our operating costs,” Scott said. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go toward their mission.

The Charlevoix Humane Society is not a government agency. It is an independent non-profit 501(c)3 no-kill animal shelter that has been serving Charlevoix County since 1974. They are almost completely dependent on donations and fundraisers. HomeAgain will assist them in continuing to care for lost, abused, and neglected animals in Charlevoix County, including Beaver Island.

“HomeAgain is a new and innovative way to fund the shelter.” Jessica Dixon, Store Manager, said. “The community is rallying behind us. People stop in to check on our progress as we renovate our new space. They’ve all been very supportive.”

There are many exciting items waiting to be rehomed and cared for, like a gorgeous dining room table, inlaid with stone and tile, that comes with six chairs. Looking for home accessories? Check out their Waterford crystal! You never know what you’ll find at HomeAgain. Some items are whimsical and quirky. Two vintage hand carved duck decoys are just waiting for a good home!

There is also a “vinyl room” full of vintage records. A record player and headphones are available for you to listen before you buy.

HomeAgain will be doing a soft opening this weekend, May 16th and 17th from 12–6. The official ribbon cutting will be on June 1st. Hours will be Monday — Saturday from 10 AM — 6 PM with extended summer hours. If you happen to be in Boyne City, don’t be afraid to pop in if you see activity in the store. “Basically, if we’re in here, we’re open. We’re not going to turn anyone away.” Scott said.

If you are remodeling or downscaling your home, keep HomeAgain in mind as a place to donate your items as a tax-deductible gift. They will be sure to rehome your cherished possessions to someone who loves them as much as you do.

The Charlevoix Area Humane Society hopes to be able to afford some upgrades to their shelter. “We’re seeing a lot of upper respiratory problems in our dogs and cats when they come in. We’d like to get a new HVAC air filtration system for better ventilation for our animals. Also, we’d like to purchase surgical equipment to do onsite spaying and neutering. That alone would save us $30,000–50,000 per year.”

HomeAgain will also have an e-commerce section where items will be available to purchase online. Be sure to check their website often, as their inventory will be constantly changing.

The store is located at 118 Water Street in downtown Boyne City. Make sure to stop in to HomeAgain and welcome this wonderful resale shop to our Boyne City community!
