Grimes Governors Days Are Back! Here's What You Need to Know

One of the biggest annual events in Grimes, Iowa is coming back as Governors Days returns.

Grimes residents will be happy to hear that their annual Governors Days will be returning this year from June 10th to 12th. The event was not held during 2020 due to COVID-19.

A popular family friendly event in central Iowa, Governors Days is held entirely within the heart of Grimes, Iowa, Complete with concerts, parades, carnivals and much, much more; Governors Days has something for everyone.

While a full schedule for the 2021 Grimes Governors Days has yet to be announced, a few activities for this upcoming event are as follows.

Thursday, June 10th

New for 2021, The Grimes Governors Days Entertainment Garden will be open for the first time starting on the Thursday night of the festival from 6 PM until 10 PM. New this year is a business Expo in the Entertainment Garden from 6pm - 8pm.

Friday, June 11th

On Friday, June 11th from 8 PM - 11:30 PM, come enjoy Red Dirt Renegade or as their fans refer to them “RDR”. A hard hitting all Iowan Outlaw Country band, they are a professional band with years of stage experience, high end equipment and a pure passion for live performance. RDR considers all venues they play as a partnership and they always do their part to ensure success plain and simple.

Saturday, June 12th:

Saturday, June 12th’s featured entertainer will be Singer/Songwriter Damon Dotson from 8 PM - 11:30 PM. The Iowa native and Nashville newbie's small town folk sensibilities sit juxtaposed the hustle and flow of the big city.

Grimes Governors Day Parade

The popular Grimes Governors Days parade will be held Saturday, June 12th at 10 AM. Applications for participants in the parade are now being accepted. Interested parties can access an application here.

Participate in this annual Governors Days tradition by purchasing a square for your business, family, cause or just for fun. The paint, brushes and other items you need will all be provided. Find out more information here.

Governors Days 5k & Fun Run

Join in for the 18th Annual 5K and Fun Run! Dressing to match the theme "Decades" is encouraged for the 5K/Fun Run!

Packet pick-up will be from 7-5:30 PM on Thursday, June 10th and 7 AM-6 PM Friday, June 11th at Athletico Physical Therapy. Race day packet pick-up and registration will start at 6:00 AM in the ADESA parking lot (1800 SE Gateway Drive) on June 12th. The 5K will start at 7:00 AM with the Fun Run beginning at approximately 7:45 AM.

Grimes Governors Days Bill Riley Talent Search
The Grimes Governors Days Bill Riley Talent Search will be held Friday, June 11th. Check in is at 2 PM. The show will be at 3 PM. Those interested in participating can complete an application online here.

Admission to Grimes Governors Days is free for attendees thanks to the many wonderful business sponsors from the community. Applications for vendors for the event are now being accepted. Interested parties can register online at www.governorsdays.com.

Complete with concerts, parades, carnivals, great vendors and much, much more; Governors Days has something for everyone. This grand community event is headed up by a vibrant group of dedicated volunteers and organized with the help of Grimes Chamber & Economic Development.

COVID-19 precautions for the 2021 Grimes Governors Days will be announced closer to the event.
