NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A Newport massage therapist’s license was temporarily suspended last week after he was accused of inappropriately touching a patient.

Patrick McGirr, who’s been a licensed massage therapist since July 2002, reportedly groped a patient at Bellevue Massage and Bodyworks back in April, according to a suspension notice made public last Thursday by the R.I. Department of Health (RIDOH) .

RIDOH Acting Director Staci Fischer determined there was reasonable cause to suspend McGirr’s license pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing. That hearing has not yet been scheduled, but will be within 90 days of the suspension notice being issued.

No criminal charges have been filed against McGirr at this time, according to court records.

12 News has reached out to Bellevue Massage and Bodyworks regarding McGirr’s employment status but has not yet heard back.

This comes nearly two years after another massage therapist at Bellevue Massage and Bodyworks was arrested and charged with sexual assault. His case is still pending in Newport County Superior Court.
