Route 138 to see lane closures weekend of April 5

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Travelers are looking at more lane closures next month as the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) continues construction around the Pell Bridge.

The left lanes of Route 138 will be closed from 5 p.m. on Friday, April 5, until 7 a.m. on Monday, April 8, between the Pell Bridge and the J.T. Connell Highway in Newport as crews remove and replace the center median. This construction is part of Phase 2 of the Pell Bridge Ramps project.

The lane closures were originally scheduled for the weekend of March 22, but were postponed due to inclement weather predictions.

RIDOT says the closures will allow workers to remove the existing guardrail, curb, and asphalt island, replace the gravel subbase, repave the roadway and install the new center median barrier.
