Lights at Legion Kicks off Saturday
The city of Covington invites area residents to take a stroll through its Lights at Legion display of more than 100 Christmas trees decorated for the season. The trees, sponsored by area businesses, organizations, churches, schools and families, light up the walking trail at Legion Field, located on Mill Street in Covington. Covington will kick off its Lights at Legion celebration tonight beginning with movies — “The Grinch” at 6 p.m. and then “elf” immediately following at Legion Field. Santa will be on hand from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and dinner and snacks can be purchased onsite from Issa Funnel, Bradley’s Bar-B-Que — Covington, Chick-fil-A Covington, Los Monchies Mexican Cuisine, Lily & Sparrow Mercantile and The Chocolate Box Covington. Facepainting Fairies will also be there painting faces for a fee and Ice Days Ice Skating Rinks will be open.

An Athens man may have seen a strange aerial phenomenon that caused a mysterious explosion that was heard across southern Walton County a week ago. A Christmas kindness remembered
Editor’s note: The following is a Christmas memory submitted by former Jackson resident Linda Young Hester, the daughter of Red and Mertice Young. Hester grew up in Jackson and was graduated from Jackson High School in 1967. Hester’s mother, who is 92, still lives in Jackson. Hester said she has many fond memories of growing up in a small Georgia town. She now lives in St. Simon’s Island with her husband, Jerry, but said she still considers Jackson her home.
