ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of a Newark man on possession of a stolen vehicle and DWAI charges on Saturday.

According to WCSO, their deputies were assisting with an investigation into a stolen vehicle out of Monroe County when the vehicle was spotted on East Union Street in the Village of Newark. Wayne Co. deputies said Robert Wells, age 31, of Newark was operating the vehicle and showed signs of impairment while speaking with them. Deputies said open containers of alcohol were found in the vehicle and no ignition interlock device was installed.

The WCSO said Wells was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing where he submitted to a chemical breath test which yielded a .06% BAC. Deputies added that Wells was found to have had a previous DWI conviction in 2021, and a revoked driver’s license.

Deputies said Wells was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, driving while ability impaired by alcohol, aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, operating in violation of an ignition interlock restriction, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle.

According to WCSO, Wells was transported to the Wayne County Jail to be arraigned and was released on his own recognizance to return on a future court date before being turned over to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for processing on their charges.
