NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The NYPD is searching for a suspect after a 70-year-old man was viciously assaulted on a subway platform in Times Square, leaving him with a fractured eye bone.

Police released an image Thursday of the man they’re searching for in Saturday morning’s attack at the Times Square–42nd Street station.

The victim was on the southbound 2/3 platform at 9:50 a.m. when another man came up and bashed him in the head with a bag, police said.

The force of the blow caused the victim to fall and hit his head on the floor.

He suffered an orbital fracture and was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was in stable condition.

It’s unclear if the victim and his attacker had any sort of exchange before the attack or if it was completely unprovoked.

The suspect fled on a southbound 2 train, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
