NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Two men are in the hospital and two suspects are at large after an attempted robbery in Hell’s Kitchen early Sunday morning resulted in a gunman shooting the victim and one of his accomplices, the NYPD said.

A 35-year-old man was exiting a building near 50th Street and 12th Avenue at about 4:30 a.m. when police said two suspects approached him at gunpoint.

The robbers tried to snatch the man’s chain, but a struggle ensued. One of the would-be bandits opened fire on the man for resisting and struck him in the arm.

EMS transported the 35-year-old to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue where he is in stable condition, officials said.

The muggers continued shooting as they ran to a white Honda Accord where a getaway driver was waiting, and police said a 21-year-old perpetrator was struck in the escape.

They brought their wounded accomplice to NYU Langone Health, and he is expected to survive, officials said.

The 21-year-old is in police custody, though his identity and charges against him are pending.

It is yet unclear whether the victim knew his attackers or not.

Authorities are searching for two additional suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
