A 13-story housing development is planned to take over a strip mall in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood.<\p> An affiliate of Brooklyn-based developer Bawabeh Realty Holdings is seeking a zoning variance to make way for a 264,000-square-foot mixed-use apartment complex at 1720 Atlantic Ave.<\p>
Law firm commits to New York City headquarters
Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, an international law firm, has signed a 20-year lease to remain in its New York City headquarters.<\p> The deal at Midtown Manhattan office tower 787 Seventh Ave. covers approximately 315,000 square feet of office space, which will go through a comprehensive renovation.<\p>
Sauna studio to heat up NYC with 'SNØ Shower'
Perspire Sauna Studio, a franchise that specializes in full-spectrum infrared and red light therapy, will enter the New York City market for the first time with three studios.<\p> The sauna franchise has partnered with a local health care entrepreneur to open a studio in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood, followed by locations in Chelsea and another New York City neighborhood.<\p>
The Monarch apartments open in Queens
The Monarch, a 24-story, 542,000-square-foot mixed-use development, officially opened in Queens’ Jamaica neighborhood on Thursday with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.<\p> BRP Cos., the developer behind The Monarch, acquired the site at 92-29 Guy Brewer Blvd. for around $55 million in 2017 and collaborated with the Greater Jamaica Development Corp. on the project. Construction finished a couple of months ago.<\p>

A 292-unit apartment complex is being planned in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.<\p> New York City-based developer Phoenix Realty Group plans to build a 14-story, 175,000-square-foot development at 109 Marcus Garvey Blvd. through the city's Senior Affordable Rental Apartments Program, which will create Affordable Independent Residences for Seniors.<\p>
Trader Joe's arrives in Harlem
Trader Joe’s opened its first store in Harlem on Thursday at 123 W. 125th St., adding to its New York City presence.<\p> This 17,800-square-foot grocery store, the chain's 10th in Manhattan, is part of a mixed-use development that includes office space, retail shops, apartments, the National Urban League headquarters and a new civil rights movement museum.<\p>
Ghirardelli to open its first New York City chocolate shop
The Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. said it will celebrate the grand opening of its chocolate and ice cream store in New York City's Empire State Building on Aug. 6. The shop will be the San Francisco chocolatier's first New York location.<\p> The lease of 2,800-square-feet of space was announced by Empire State Realty Trust, which owns the building, back in January.<\p>
FuzeHub grants boost NYC manufacturing projects
FuzeHub, a not-for-profit organization that provides manufacturers with access to a network of industry resources, recently awarded $455,000 in manufacturing grants to seven New York projects through its Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund, including two in New York City.<\p> An award of $65,000 each will be provided to New York State not-for-profit organizations, including universities, that collaborate with small to medium-sized manufacturers on innovative projects.<\p>
Shuttered Manhattan prison to become affordable housing
A $108 million project called Liberty Landing aims to turn the 100,000-square-foot Bayview Correctional Facility in Manhattan into 124 affordable housing units. The project will provide housing for low-income residents and supportive services for previously incarcerated individuals.<\p> The development will also include a 9,300-square-foot community facility for youth programming and a 15-unit short-term transitional residence housing facility for individuals with mental health needs who require temporary housing during life transitions.<\p>
