What a tense scene on the Mississippi River in New Orleans, Louisiana as a towboat and barges nearly collided with a steamboat and dock.

The dramatic footage was caught on camera by Earl Weber, who was on top of Jax Brewery, early Friday morning.

The currents in the river were to blame for this mishap and because of it, this towboat nearly hit the popular Natchez Steamboat, a ferry, and the dock in New Orleans.

Amazingly, the captain was able to avoid disaster and according to WWL , the Coast Guard released this statement.

“This incident is under investigation by the Coast Guard. At 9:06 a.m. local time, on April 28, the Coast Guard received a notification about the vessel, ROGER L KNIGHT, a U.S. flag tug boat, being pinned onto the bank piling at Algiers Point below Canal Street Ferry Landing at MM 95 due to strong winds. The vessel had 24 empty hopper barges attached, which reportedly the head barge, touched the Ferry Landing. No damage, injuries or pollution has been reported. There was also a small craft advisory out due to high winds.”

The New Orleans-based television station reports that this incident is under investigation, but everyone near this incident should be taking a deep breath because this could have been a major disaster.

Here’s the moment the barges nearly hit the boats and the dock in the Cresent City.
