NEW CASTLE, Ind. — One person was seriously injured in a stabbing in New Castle early Sunday after police said the suspect was caught stealing prescription medication.

Nicholas Ramsey, 18, was arrested approximately one block from the crime scene after calling 911 and claiming he was shot. Police said Ramsey had not been shot, however, and only suffered minor injuries while fleeing the stabbing scene.

According to the New Castle Police Department, officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Lincoln Avenue just after midnight on Sunday. There officers found the victim suffering from stab wounds.

Police said the victim identified Ramsey as the suspect and claimed Ramsey had been trying to steal prescription medication which led to the violent attack. Ramsey reportedly escaped with the medication along with a stolen handgun.

After Ramsey called 911 believing he was shot, police arrested the man and seized the stolen property.

Ramsey faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, burglary resulting in serious injury, theft of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Final charges will be determined by the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office.
