Early voting in Michigan starts Saturday, locations in St. Joseph and Berrien Counties
Early voting for the Michigan primary starts Saturday, with voting taking place locally in St. Joeseph and Berrien Counties until Tuesday, August 6. In Berrien County, early voting will be at the South County Courthouse in Niles. In St. Joseph County, it will be at their training facility in Centreville.

Jason Remmel, a distinguished La Porte High School teacher, has been named a Top 25 Finalist in the 2025 Indiana Teacher of the Year (INTOY) Program. Jason's leadership in professional development has been pivotal in advancing technology and professional growth within the La Porte Community School Corporation (LPCSC). As the LPHS Computer Resource Person and technology department liaison, he has spearheaded new teacher technology orientation training and coordinated the implementation of the Gizmos Explore Learning Curriculum. His grant writing and professional development coordination have ensured the successful integration of Gizmos into the science curriculum for grades 5-12, ushering in a new era of interactive learning. Moreover, his leadership in implementing the Project Lead The Way Biomedical Sciences pathway at LPHS has significantly enriched the curriculum, offering students valuable exposure to biomedical sciences.

LaPorte man arrested, charged for running full-service bar from home
LAPORTE, Ind. (WSBT) — A LaPorte man is facing charges that he ran a full-service bar from his home with offerings that included food and gambling. Scott Meece is charged in LaPorte Circuit Court with a felony maintaining a common nuisance along with two misdemeanor counts of selling alcohol beverages without a permit and unauthorized furnishing of alcoholic beverages.

Suspected Bomb a Doll House
(La Porte County, IN) - What was thought to be a possible bomb turned out to be a false alarm at a Family Express just outside La Porte. According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, the area around the Family Express was secured at U.S. 35 and Johnson Road Thursday afternoon. Police said an unlabeled styrofoam package was on the ground beneath a U.S. Postal Service mailbox near the storefront. Members of the Porter County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded and deemed the package safe after x-raying it.
