Eisenhower while attempting to move the artifact into Hegseth’s office. A Pentagon official acknowledged the incident in a statement on Oct. 22, saying that “an accident occurred while staff were transporting a replica of the Eisenhower globe as part of its relocation.” “Accidents happen, we are grateful no one was harmed, and the globe is being repaired,” the official added. Hegseth was born on anniversary of D Day invasion Hegseth was born on June 6, 1980 , the 36th anniversary of the historic 1944 D Day invasion commanded by Eisenhower, who had an affinity for globes. A large globe is part of the "Waging Peace" exhibit at the Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum & Boyhood Home, located on a 22-acre campus at 200 SE Fourth St. in Abilene. That tourist attraction educates visitors about the life and times of Eisenhower, who grew up in Abilene, served as a five-star general in the U.S. Army and commanded the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II. Eisenhower later served as the 34th president of the United States from 1953 to 1961.
