(SAN JOSE, Calif.) An Asian American teenager from San Jose was allegedly targeted with racial slurs and sustained a concussion when punched during a basketball tournament in Oakland, KPIX 5 reported.

On Saturday, the boy, identified only by his first name, Evan, was playing for the South Bay Snipers in an Amateur Athletic Union game against the San Francisco Generals.

The incident allegedly started when Evan dove to try and grab a loose ball from the opposing team. During an ensuing altercation, a second SF Generals player pushed Evan over the first General, who was still on the floor, then punched him in the face after standing up. The player who hit Even was banned from Sunday’s tournament game.

“Not one single parent stood up to go protect my son. I ran across the gym to get him,” his mother, Lennie, told KPIX 5. “They did use the ‘C’ word.”

The boy’s parents said they plan to file a report with the Oakland Police Department.
