(WALNUT CREEK, Calif.) Two private security guards who were hired by an anti-abortion group for a rally against Planned Parenthood last year were charged with suspicion of battery on Friday.

According to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office, Ishtapal Momi, 27, of Elk Grove and Peter Reeves, 45, of Sacramento were hired by 40 Days for Life for a protest against Planned Parenthood on October 13 of last year.

An altercation occurred during that protest that resulted in Momi and Reeves deploying pepper spray against four counter-protesters.

According to a statement from the county DA's office, both men were illegally armed with tear gas. Additionally, both men were carrying firearms and illegal canisters of pepper spray.

Under California state law, anything over 2.5 ounces is considered illegal.
