Conveyor manufacturer to close 2 West Michigan plants, lay off 102 workers
A Georgia producer of material handling automation systems and software plans to close two West Michigan production facilities and consolidate the operations in Kentucky. MHS Conveyor Corp., a part of Atlanta-based Fortna Inc., plans to end manufacturing operations beginning June 28 at production facilities at 1300 E. Mount Garfield Road in Norton Shores and 3501 Fruit Ridge Ave. NW in Walker. The plant closings will result in the loss of 102 production and support jobs between the two facilities.

Road construction projects in Ottawa County getting early start
OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – The Ottawa County Road Commission added a pair of projects to its list this year with money saved thanks to a lighter winter season. Both resurfacing projects were initially scheduled to begin in 2027. However, with fewer winter weather events in 2024, that meant less time was needed to plow out roads across the county. It also meant fewer instances of overtime and de-icing material usage.
