Muskegon woman to be first Black woman in U.S. to present soul food at national chef's convention
MUSKEGON, Mich — LaKisha Harris, better known as Chef L’ Soul, is getting ready for what she describes as the opportunity of a lifetime. She’s flying to Phoenix in July as the first Black woman to present on soul food at the American Culinary Federation (ACF) National Convention, presenting what she calls “culinary freedom of the soul”.

Muskegon, Mich. - Michigan’s Adventure opens May 24 to kick off a 2024 season filled with family fun and adventure. Military Days will be held May 24th through the 27th. Free admission will be offered to U.S. military members and veterans during these days. Active and retired military members will receive free admission to the park, when presenting a valid military ID at the park entrance. Additional tickets for friends and family are available online at a 50% discount, with required verification.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – We want to tell you about a special musical event coming to two West Michigan locations! The Taste of Ireland is an Irish music and dance performance touring around the world and making two stops in our area. The tour is hot off its Off-Broadway premiere and starting its tour of the United States. They tell us you’ll laugh, cry and jig into the night with a production that they call “Celtic, for this generation.” The tour will come to the Frauenthal Theatre on Friday night and they’re at Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo on Saturday. Elementary students celebrated for Coast Guard-themed artwork
A group of young students was recognized for their artistic talents on Monday night during Grand Haven Area Public School’s Board of Education meeting. For several years, GHAPS has partnered with the City of Grand Haven to give students an opportunity to create artwork for the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to showcase on banners and on the lamp posts along Washington Avenue and at local businesses and homes both downtown and in Centertown. Cyndi Casemier, the district’s liaison from the city’s DDA, said students are given a general theme such as “lighthouse” or “summer activities” to base their artwork on. The top six to eight entries are chosen to be made into banners.
