Whitefield romps past Eagle's Landing Christian
McDONOUGH — Eagle’s Landing Christian's five-game win streak ended on a soggy field Friday night as visiting Whitefield Academy put together some clock-eating drives, en route to a 42-6 victory in the Region 5AA contest. Whitefield (4-3, 2-0) built a 28-6 lead at the half and closed out the game with a running clock in the fourth quarter. With the victory, the WolfPack improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in region action. The Chargers dropped to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 5-AA. Eagle's Landing Christian (5-2, 1-1) returns to action Sept. 23 against Washington. Whitefield is also off until then, when it plays Utopian Academy. Despite the wet conditions, the Wolfpack kept the chains moving throughout the night. Whitefield put the ball in the hands of running back Amos Robinson, who helped the Wolfpack control the football through the first three quarters, before exiting the game with more than 100 yards. Whitefield also came up with some big plays on defense with Connor Boothe and Jake O’Connor stopping Eagle's Landing Christian drives with interceptions after the Chargers moved the ball into Wolfpack territory. On the first series of the game, the Wolfpack set the tone with a 70-yard touchdown

Powder Puff Ends in Sophomore Victory
After losing last year’s Powder Puff event, the sophomore class returned with a victory this year, turning last year’s loss into a comeback. This year’s Powder Puff brought together girls from all four grade levels for a tournament-style flag football competition. Football players coached teams representing the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. Coach Burkett, who helped plan the event, said most teams recruited players in the weeks leading up to Powder Puff, while coaches came up with plays to go over with their teams before the game. For Burkett, one of the highlights was, “watching all the kids get excited on different plays, and then watching the sophomores win it all in overtime.” The victory carried extra meaning for the sophomores after their loss in last year’s Powder Puff game. Ava Murdock, a sophomore who participated in the event, said, “We needed it because last year we lost and it was very disappointing, but this year after the win, I think it was enjoyable for everybody.” Communication also played a role in the team’s performance. “We communicated a lot and we had, like, a huddle after every play,” sophomore Zoe Case said.

Model grounds Eagles in homecoming shutout
Football coaches always preach the importance of playing well in all three phases of the game. The Model High Blue Devils did that Friday and then some, bludgeoning the visiting Mount Zion Eagles of Carroll County 42-0 on Homecoming night at Model’s Woodard-Tuggle Stadium. The Blue Devils forced four Eagle turnovers on defense, dominated the ground game on offense, and returned a blocked field goal over 80 yards for a score on special teams. All of this followed Model’s first loss of the 2026 season, and so it improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Region 6-AA. Mount Zion has lost three straight to fall to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the region. “It was big for our kids to recover in the way that they did (after last week’s loss to Bremen) … we talked about what would be our response, and I thought it was pretty good, especially early,” said Model head coach Jeff Hunnicutt. “We talked about our character a lot this week, and at the end of the day, your character is going to carry you a lot further in life than any shutout or any win. I was happy for our kids … I enjoyed

Kiwanis Youth Charity Golf Tournament for 2026
On Sept. 16, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K and The Kiwanis Club of Lost Mountain held their Annual Youth Charity Golf Tournament at the BridgeMill Athletic Club In Canton. For the past 31 years, the two Kiwanis clubs have hosted this tournament, which has become to be known as the “Tee It Up for the Kids” tournament. Since 1995, the clubs have raised over $1,000,000 for kids. The 2026 tournament was very successful. Over 120 companies and individuals donated from $125 to $3,500 for a net proceeds of over $34,000 that will be distributed to youth charities and Kiwanis supported programs by the two clubs as well as the Kiwanis Foundation. The slogan for the tournament has been aptly named “Tee it up for the Kids” because many Kiwanis supported organizations receive proceeds as a result of the tournament. Combined membership of the clubs is approximately 130 members. Over 10,000 hours of community service were volunteered last year. The focus of Kiwanis is to support and develop international, national and local youth programs. Bremen field positions doom Dragons
As the big Region 6-2A game in the Lindale community moved into the second quarter, Bremen’s starting field positions began to get worse and worse ... from the point of view of the Pepperell High Dragons. What was a one-score game got quickly out of hand, and the Bremen Blue Devils went on to cruise to a 42-7 victory to remain undefeated at 6-0 in 2026. Pepperell entered the game even in the region standings at 2-0 but the result slipped the Dragons to 2-1, even now with the Model Blue Devils for third place. In the first quarter, Pepperell caught its fair share of breaks, beginning with Bremen’s opening series on offense. Blue Devil back Canyon Carter streaked upfield into Dragon territory at the 36. The visitors attempted a 50-plus-yard field goal but missed. Pepperell punted away its first possession deep into Bremen ground and then came up with an interception on the Blue Devil 26. The visiting defense, however, was able to push back on the Dragons, who eventually lost the football on downs. Two big plays later, including a Carter run to the Dragon 30, set up a touchdown pass from Eli Brock to Carter for the
