Model makes history in dominant win
The Model High Blue Devils didn’t just win Friday — they made football history. The No. 9-ranked Model squad dominated the host Darlington Tigers in all three phases of the game, romping over the Tigers 54-21 at Chris Hunter Stadium. The victory not only gave the Blue Devils (7-1 overall, 3-1 in Region 6-AA) their most regular season wins in a decade, but it also snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Tigers that spanned almost three decades. The last time Model beat Darlington was in 1997, a 15-14 overtime win. And the last time the Blue Devils beat the Tigers on the road? The “Miami Vice” theme song was No. 1 on the charts — November of 1985. It was the most points a Model team had ever scored against Darlington, and it was the biggest margin of victory the Blue Devils have ever had over the Tigers in the 32-game series between the teams that dates back to 1972. Not only did Model snap its long losing streak to Darlington, but it kept alive a chance to win a region championship. The seven wins so far are the most for a Blue Devils team since 2016. Model will

Wolves finally put one in the 'W' column
Time to throw away the donut, the one that had been growing stale sitting under Rome High School’s football win total since Aug. 21. The Wolves basically earned their first win under new head coach Bill Stewart in the 2026 season in the first half Friday, opposition coming from another winless group from Region 6-6A, the River Ridge Knights. The 24-0 halftime cushion Rome enjoyed — which grew to 31 early in the second half — got a little uncomfortable halfway through the fourth quarter. With a bruising touchdown run of 38 yards from Ja’ckijay Robinson in a back-up role, the Wolves were able to get back into celebratory mode and count down the last seconds of a 38-21 victory. The win came on a night of even more celebration of Rome football — the greatest victory of the Wolves era — for the 10-year anniversary of the 2016 state champions. The Barron Stadium video screen showed portions of the win over Buford in Atlanta, and players attending the game were introduced along with former head coach John Reid. Rome’s struggles in 2026 came to a halt for one night as Stewart used a rotation at quarterback with Zayden Winston

Coosa can't catch up with Mt. Zion in home loss
Time ran out on Coosa High’s furious effort to get even with the Mt. Zion-Carroll Eagles Friday in a Region 6-2A football clash in western Floyd County. The visitors led by as much as three touchdowns and never trailed their hosts in getting the 28-21 win that put both squads at 3-5 on the 2026 season and 1-4 in region play. Trent Harris capped off Mt. Zion’s first drive of the game with a 38-yard touchdown run. Coosa’s attempt to answer resulted in a loss of possession on downs. Mt. Zion took over at its own 31-yard-line, advanced the football to the 50 and then saw the first quarter end still with a 7-0 lead. The drive continued in the second period, and the visiting Eagles were inside Coosa’s 15 when Jaydin Cheek caught a touchdown pass of 12 yards. Down 14-0, Coosa punted away its next drive only to then recover a Mt. Zion fumble on the CHS 37. Unable to take advantage of the takeaway, the home team punted again. On its ensuing drive, Mt. Zion scored from the 4-yard-line for the three-touchdown lead of 21-0. Coosa had two more possessions before halftime, and in the waning minutes
